About Caroline

Caroline (1978, Soest the Netherlands) lives and works in Haarlem. She graduated from the Ceramics Department of the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in 2006.

Caroline works with a variety of materials; her sculptures are primarily made of papier-mâché, rope, and ceramics. Occasionally, she ventures into other materials.

Because art is a language in itself, it is always difficult to fully capture the process in words. The work emerges partly consciously, through the mind, and partly intuitively. There is a constant dialogue between head and heart.

Recurring themes include transience, stillness, metamorphosis, the human psyche, the relationship between humans and nature, our place in the world, and the perspective from which we observe things. Each sculpture or series tells its own story, which can be found alongside the images of the individual works.
