Caught or carried #1 - 2023
This work moves in the subtle space between surrender and restraint. What feels like trust and relaxation to one person may evoke tension in another. The same image can be both gentle and oppressive at the same time.
There is no clear-cut answer to the question: is this support, or is it imprisonment? The answer shifts with the viewer's gaze and with the experience that gaze brings.
In this way, the work reveals how narrow the line can be between security and control, between peace and dependence, and how our perception tells us as much about ourselves as it does about the sculpture.
