The Dreamer, 2013
This sculpture was created for a commission from Kunstlab Deventer. It was displayed during the art cycling route ‘Van hier tot ginder’ (From here to there) and at Kunstplatform 37PK in Haarlem.
A white cat climbs to the top of a stack of red chairs, each with its own character and history.The cat is held in place by its own threads, which act as anchors. Yellow rays emanate from its eyes, ending up in the grass. The red tower with a white top is reminiscent of a lighthouse, transforming the grass into the sea. It symbolizes the home port where you are safe, but which at the same time prevents you from taking the steps you may have been dreaming of for years. A story about (as yet) unfulfilled desires.
